Fiber Closures
Fiber Storage Units are used to conveniently and safely
store an extra length of cable along the support strand for later use.
AFL offers two types of fiber closures - standard fiber closure and an
ADSS specific closure.
Standard Fiber Storage Unit
Furnished as pairs (kit contains two fiber storage units and two
sets of hanger brackets), these FSU’s feature all aluminum, baked
acrylic enamel finish or dielectric poypropylene with UV inhibitor.
All basic hardware for attachment to the support strand is provided.
Strand mount support brackets meet Telcordia® specification and are
REA accepted. Galvanized strand clamping devices accommodate 1/4" to
7/16" strand and meet ASTM specifications A153 and B695.
Features:
• Small profile and a side facing channel to minimize ice load
• All aluminum construction with welded cross members
• Baked acrylic enamel finish/chromate pre-finish per MIL-C-5541-B
• Contains 2% carbon black as a UV inhibitor (dielectric version)
• Basic hardware (bolts, nuts and washers) and strand mount support
brackets included
• Tie-wrap slots for securing cable from sliding
• Strand mount support brackets meet Telcordia specification and are
REA accepted
• Galvanized strand clamping devices accommodate 1/4" to 7/16"
strand
ADSS Fiber Storage Unit
This fiber storage unit is designed specifically for Aerial
Dielectric Self-supporting cable.
Features:
• Extremely lightweight and compact to minimize stress and ice
loading on the fiber cable. Weight is evenly spread between two spans.
• Cost effective - Installation of the OPTI-LOOP system is designed
to be a one man, one tool, one truck, 30-45 minute operation. The
stored length of cable can be lowered and reinstalled in minutes
without disturbing the main run. The reduced cost associated with
hardware, labor and equipment allows several OPTI-LOOP systems to be
placed for the cost of one underground system.
• Aesthetically neat and pleasant - All reserve cable and splice
closures are safely and neatly secured aerially. There are no coils,
boxes, "arm" assemblies or unsightly cable runs up and down the pole.
• Provides a convenient and safe splice closure mounting point -
splice closures are mounted directly to the Dead-End hardware, keeping
it neatly secured with no load on the fiber cable. Designed for use
with Through or Butt Splices.
• Approved for use in both the communication and supply regions of
the pole.
• Can be used with wood, steel or concrete poles.
• Figure "8" storage pattern prevents twists in the fiber sheath
when stored cable is retrieved for use.
• No limit on amount of cable that can be stored.
