Description

EZ-MUD DP is a free-flowing, dry granular synthetic polymer containing partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide/polyacrylate (PHPA) copolymer. EZ-MUD DP, a water-soluble polymer, disperses and dissolves in fresh water rapidly without forming fisheyes. When mixed with fresh water, EZ-MUD DP hydrates immediately and forms a clear, viscous solution. With its high molecular weight and optimum charge density, EZ-MUD DP provides excellent borehole stability through a coating mechanism (encapsulation).

Recommended Treatments

In air/foam drilling for stabilizing and improving properties of the foam

Use 0.6 pounds per 100 gallons of injection fluid (0.7 kilograms per cubic meter of injection fluid).

Notes:
For ease in measuring, use a quart and/or liter container graduated in ounces or milliliters such as the plastic cup used with the Marsh Funnel or a kitchen measuring cup.

• Do not over mix and avoid prolonged periods of high shear.
• When first mixed, EZ-MUD DP tends to develop a viscosity hump, after a couple of circulation cycles the system will smooth out.
• Make-up water quality can strongly affect EZ-MUD DP polymer slurry viscosity development

Notes:

• Make-up water used to mix EZ-MUD DP should meet the following qualities:
  • total chloride less than 1500 ppm (mg/l)
  • total hardness less than 150 ppm as calcium
  • total chlorine less than 100 ppm
  • water pH between 5 to 10
• Reduce total hardness of make-up water by adding 1 to 2 pounds (0.45 to 0.9 kilograms) soda ash (sodium carbonate) per 1,000 gallons (3.8 m3) of make-up water.

EZ-MUD DP can be chemically broken down with regular household liquid bleach (5% sodium hypochlorite). Use one gallon of liquid bleach per 100 gallons (10 liters/m3) of fluid formulated with EZ-MUD DP. Do not use perfumed liquid bleach or solid calcium hypochlorite.
